Using an ICF System
Whether you have already decided or are still in the process of deciding on using an ICF system for your foundation, you are well on your way to building your house with arguably one of the most superior products on the market today. Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) have been around much longer than you may realize yet have just recently been picking up in popularity. Home builders and DIYers have begun understanding the immense benefits that ICF foundations can provide to them in their new homes. From savings on heating and cooling costs, to sound dampening from the outdoors, ICF boasts some of the most sought-after home benefits in an all-in-one product.
Foam Plastic Panels
The forms themselves are made up of two lightweight expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam plastic panels. The two EPS panels are connected with high-density polypropylene webs, made at various sizes, that determines the spacing in which the concrete core of the foundation is set. The two most common core sizes are 6” and 8”. There are many different brands of ICF, and each of them manufacture their own interlocking systems, and block designs and styles. In this guide we will walk through a step-by-step process of installing ICF, and though the process may differ slightly from one brand to another, the general process remains quite similar. Welcome to a world of living better.
